TrueNorth Tested exists to help Canadian shoppers make better decisions with their own money. This policy governs how we choose products, how we test them, and how we handle the commercial relationships that fund the site.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone. Our commercial team does not see a review before publication and has no authority to change a score, a verdict or a criticism. No brand has ever been given advance sight of a review.
How products are selected
We cover products that Canadian readers can actually buy, at price points people actually pay. Selection is based on reader questions, market share, and whether a product makes a claim that deserves verification. We do not cover a product simply because it pays well.
Ranking and scores
Rankings are determined by our measured scores. Commission rates are never an input. Where a high-commission product and a low-commission product score equally, the tie is broken by warranty length and parts availability in Canada.
Corrections
When we get something wrong we correct it, note the change at the foot of the article, and update the modified date. Substantive corrections are described in plain language. See our corrections policy.
AI and automation
We use software for transcription, data tabulation and image preparation. Every published verdict, score and criticism is written and signed off by a named human editor who has used the product. We do not publish machine-generated reviews.
Comments and reader contact
We welcome disagreement, especially from owners. If your experience contradicts ours, tell us — contact page — and we will re-test where we can.
